This New York–based couple of Filipino heritage decided to surprise their guests by bringing them to the heart of Basilicata, discovering a side of Italy that feels wonderfully authentic and unexpectedly elegant.Set in the countryside of Pisticci, just a short drive from Matera, Tenuta Visconti became the perfect backdrop for their celebration. Surrounded by rolling landscapes and timeless Southern Italian charm, the historic estate offered an atmosphere that was both refined and welcoming. Originally a noble country residence, the property still preserves the character of its past through its elegant courtyards, vaulted spaces, and the understated beauty that defines this region. The aesthetic of the wedding mirrored the couple’s vision perfectly: sophisticated and effortless, built around an all-white palette. Delicate floral arrangements, crisp tablescapes, and thoughtfully curated details transformed the estate into a setting that felt both modern and timeless. Nothing was excessive, yet every element contributed to an atmosphere of quiet elegance. And then, there was the food. Having photographed countless weddings over the years, I can honestly say that I was genuinely impressed by the sheer abundance and generosity of this celebration. Course after course arrived at the tables, showcasing the richness of Southern Italian hospitality through local flavours and beautifully prepared dishes. It was one of those meals that guests would still be talking about long after the wedding day had ended—a true feast in every sense of the word. As unforgettable as dinner was, the party that followed was equally remarkable. Abigail was the undeniable force of the dance floor. Joyful, energetic, and completely magnetic, she led the celebrations with an enthusiasm that quickly became contagious. Friends and family abandoned any sense of formality, dancing late into the night and embracing the pure happiness of being together. It was impossible not to be swept up in the atmosphere she created. Part of what made this wedding so special was its proximity to Matera, one of Italy’s most extraordinary cities. Famous for its ancient Sassi—stone dwellings carved into the mountainside and inhabited since prehistoric times—Matera is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was named European Capital of Culture in 2019. It is a place that captivates visitors with its layered history, dramatic beauty, and timeless spirit.Abigail and Richard’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that choosing a destination beyond the expected can lead to something truly unforgettable.
