Federica & Carlos, An Elegant Celebration in the Vineyards of Gavi

VILLA SPARINA, GAVI (ALESSANDRIA)

Some weddings perfectly capture the essence of two different worlds coming together. Federica and Carlos’ celebration in the rolling hills of Gavi was one of them. She is Italian and, beyond being a bride, she is also a dear friend of mine. He is Venezuelan, bringing an infectious warmth and vibrant energy that immediately made everyone feel at home. Together, they envisioned a wedding that honoured tradition while embracing effortless elegance, a celebration that was classic and refined, yet filled with life and genuine joy. Their ceremony took place at the beautiful Church of San Giacomo Maggiore in Gavi, the historic parish church in the heart of the town. Dedicated to Saint Giacomo the Greater, the church has long been part of the identity of Gavi, witnessing generations of celebrations beneath its timeless architecture. Its intimate atmosphere provided the perfect setting for vows rooted in love, family, and tradition.Following the ceremony, guests made their way to Villa Sparina, one of Piedmont’s most iconic wine estates. Nestled among vineyards, Villa Sparina is celebrated for its understated sophistication and renowned hospitality, as well as for having welcomed notable personalities and discerning travellers over the years. It represents the very best of the region: elegance without ostentation and an authentic connection to the land. Federica and Carlos chose an aesthetic that reflected exactly who they are. The wedding was deeply traditional, yet interpreted through a contemporary lens. Every detail felt intentional: clean lines, refined styling, and a minimalist approach that allowed the beauty of the venue and the emotion of the day to shine through naturally. As the sun began to set over the vineyards, guests gathered outdoors for aperitivo beneath the warm Piedmontese sky. Golden light illuminated the landscape as glasses were raised in celebration, accompanied by laughter, embraces, and the unmistakable feeling that the evening ahead would be unforgettable. No celebration in Gavi would be complete without paying tribute to its most famous treasure: wine. The area is internationally renowned for Gavi DOCG, one of Italy’s most prestigious white wines, produced from the Cortese grape. Elegant and fresh, with delicate floral aromas and a distinctive mineral character, it is a wine that perfectly reflects the identity of this land. Dinner unfolded within Villa Sparina’s atmospheric infernot, historic underground cellars carved into the estate’s foundations. The stone interiors and intimate lighting created a setting unlike any other, where centuries of winemaking tradition met the warmth of a modern celebration. As the evening progressed, the couple’s two cultures blended seamlessly through music. Traditional South American sounds filled the air, infused with Venezuelan rhythms and hints of flamenco-inspired melodies that immediately drew guests onto the dance floor. What began as an elegant reception slowly transformed into a vibrant and emotional celebration. When the DJ took over, the energy shifted once again. The dance floor remained full until late into the night, surrounded by friends who had travelled from near and far. There were endless hugs, spontaneous dancing, laughter, and the kind of happiness that only comes when everyone important is gathered in one place. Federica and Carlos’ wedding was a reminder that the most meaningful celebrations are those that feel true to the people at their centre: elegant yet warm, structured yet full of life. An Italian-Venezuelan love story set among the vineyards of Gavi, surrounded by exceptional wine, unforgettable music, and a night no one wanted to end.
