Nestled among the rolling hills of Chianti, just outside Siena, Borgo Scopeto Relais provided the perfect backdrop for Jodie and Ami’s wedding celebration. Both physicians from Los Angeles, they chose Italy and Tuscany in particular as the setting to gather their closest family and friends for a wedding weekend immersed in beauty, culture, and meaningful connection. Drawn by the region’s timeless landscapes, rich traditions, and warm hospitality, they created an experience that felt both deeply personal and unmistakably Italian. The celebrations began the day before the wedding with an intimate Ketubah ceremony, one of the most meaningful traditions in a Jewish wedding. More than a marriage contract, the Ketubah is a written declaration of commitment, outlining the couple’s promises and responsibilities to one another as they begin their life together. Surrounded by their loved ones, Jodie and Ami signed the document before taking part in the joyful tradition of breaking a plate. The shattered plate symbolizes both the fragility of human relationships and the importance of caring for them with intention and respect. Laughter, applause, and excitement filled the air as the ceremony officially marked the beginning of the wedding festivities. Following the Ketubah, guests gathered for a lively Spritz Party, embracing one of Italy’s most beloved aperitivo traditions. A dedicated Spritz corner served freshly prepared cocktails throughout the evening, encouraging guests to mingle, reconnect, and settle into the relaxed rhythm of a Tuscan summer evening. For the welcome dinner, Jodie and Ami paid tribute to classic Italian style through thoughtful and charming details. Long communal tables were dressed with traditional Genoese tablecloths, known for their intricate patterns and vibrant character, evoking the atmosphere of historic Italian homes and countryside gatherings. The tablescape celebrated the colors and scents of the Mediterranean, featuring abundant lemons, clusters of bright cherry tomatoes, and fragrant basil plants arranged along the tables. The combination created a warm, joyful setting that felt effortlessly elegant while remaining deeply rooted in Italian tradition. As the sun set over the Tuscan countryside, guests shared food, stories, and laughter beneath the golden evening light. Every element of the celebration reflected the couple’s desire to create not just a wedding, but a genuine experience—one that brought together people from different places and backgrounds through hospitality, beauty, and a shared sense of belonging. The entire weekend was a seamless blend of international sophistication and local tradition, bringing a touch of Los Angeles to the heart of Tuscany. More than a celebration of Jodie and Ami’s marriage, it was a tribute to community, connection, and the simple pleasures that make life and love so meaningful.
Jodie e Ami’s wedding was the perfect example of how a Plan B can become something extraordinary. The original vision featured a vibrant floral design in shades of bright pink, surrounding the chuppah and framing the ceremony in the gardens of Borgo Scopeto. Yet sometimes, weddings write their own stories. Around midday, a powerful summer storm swept across the Tuscan hills, bringing rain so intense that it would have required not only a Plan B, but perhaps even a Plan C and D. What could have become a source of stress was instead met with the couple’s unmistakable sense of humor. Laughing together, they embraced the situation with the Italian saying “Sposa bagnata, sposa fortunata” a wet bride is a lucky bride. Their ability to welcome the unexpected set the tone for the entire day. The planning and logistics were completely reimagined in a matter of hours. Under an elegant marquee, the Jewish ceremony took place surrounded by family and friends, preserving all the emotion, meaning, and intimacy of the moment. The same space was then transformed once again to host the dinner, creating an atmosphere that felt warm, intimate, and wonderfully celebratory despite the weather outside.
Fortunately, the couple had chosen to schedule their portraits before the ceremony, allowing us to capture the beauty of Borgo Scopeto and the Tuscan landscape before the skies opened. Those photographs now stand as a beautiful contrast to the story that unfolded later in the day. As the evening progressed, the rain became little more than a backdrop to the celebration. The energy rose, the music grew louder, and the dance floor came alive. Honoring Jewish tradition, family and friends gathered for the Hora, lifting the couple high above the crowd amidst laughter, cheers, and pure exhilaration. It was one of those moments where joy becomes contagious, spreading from person to person until the entire room is moving as one. What began as a day threatened by a storm became a celebration of resilience, love, and community. Jodie and Ami reminded everyone present that the most memorable weddings are not the ones where everything goes according to plan, but the ones where people embrace whatever comes their way and turn it into something even more meaningful. The rain may have changed the setting, but it never touched the spirit of the day. In many ways, it made it unforgettable.
