Undiscovered Tuscany, Liz & Alessio, Il Baciarino, Vetulonia Maremma

IL BACIARINO, VETULONIA (GR)

There is a quieter side of Tuscany, one that lies beyond the famous postcards and crowded villages. A place discovered by travellers willing to venture a little further, where rolling hills, ancient history and slow living still define the landscape. Elizabeth and Alessio chose exactly this Tuscany for their destination wedding. Although the couple lives in Australia, Alessio’s Italian roots trace back to Udine, making the celebration feel like a meaningful return to family heritage while embracing the relaxed spirit of Australian outdoor weddings. Before the celebrations began, they wandered through the ancient Etruscan necropolis of Vetulonia, one of the region’s most fascinating archaeological treasures. Far from the usual tourist routes, this remarkable site tells the story of a civilization that shaped Tuscany long before the Renaissance, offering an intimate glimpse into a landscape that remains wonderfully untouched. Their wedding took place at Il Baciarino, nestled among the gentle hills of the Maremma, just a short drive from Castiglione della Pescaia. The venue perfectly reflected their vision: understated, natural and effortlessly elegant. The styling embraced a distinctly Australian aesthetic—minimal, earthy and deeply connected to nature. Wildflowers, neutral tones and relaxed details replaced formal extravagance. Elizabeth paired her wedding dress with rustic boots, reminiscent of classic Blundstone style, creating a look that felt both practical and beautifully authentic. The ceremony unfolded on a suspended wooden platform overlooking the rolling Maremma countryside. Surrounded by olive groves, vineyards and endless horizons, family and friends witnessed an emotional exchange of vows as the Tuscan breeze drifted through the hills. As evening arrived, everyone gathered outdoors for a long dinner celebrating the region’s coastal traditions. A seafood menu paid homage to the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea, bringing together the flavours of the Maremma with fine local wines and the warm, convivial atmosphere that defines Italian hospitality. It was a wedding that perfectly balanced two worlds: Australia’s relaxed outdoor lifestyle and the timeless beauty of authentic Tuscany. Intimate, thoughtful and deeply connected to the landscape, Elizabeth and Alessio’s celebration was a reminder that the most memorable destinations are often the ones waiting just beyond the well-travelled path.
